A LOCHGELLY fencing star will battle it out with the UK's best young athletes after being selected for the prestigious School Games.

Chloe Fielding, who attends Lochgelly High School, will represent Wales at the national multi-sport event that will take place at Loughborough University and in Sheffield from September 1-4.

The 16-year-old, who trains with West Fife Fencing Club in Dunfermline, is one of 1,600 elite young athletes from across the UK that will take part in 12 different sports at the four-day spectacular, seven of which include disability disciplines.

All three weapons – épée, foil and sabre – will feature in both standing and wheelchair fencing, and Chloe will be joined by club-mates Christopher Carr, Duncan Morrison, Alex Stewart, Katrina Dungay, Robbie Brown, Eden Steele and Mark Alvares-Peres, who will all represent Scotland.

Chloe commented: "I'm excited to participate in such a big event for the Welsh Fencing team. This gives me an opportunity to take part in an amazing experience which will help me develop as an athlete, hopefully leading to further selections for youth and senior teams."

Eleven of the events will take place at Loughborough - the swimming competition will take place in Sheffield as renovations continue to the university's own state-of-the-art pool - and Chloe will follow in the footsteps of some of Britain's biggest sporting stars who have competed at the School Games before going on to senior international success, including Olympic gold medallist and world record breaking swimmer Adam Peaty and heptathlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson.

At the event she will experience the excitement of competing at the highest level and live within an Olympic-style athletes' village, attend spectacular opening and closing ceremonies and perform in front of a crowd of thousands.

A full education programme for the athletes will run throughout the event, giving them an insight on life at the very highest level of sporting competition, and for more information and to book tickets, visit www.2016schoolgames.com/tickets.
