OVER 400 competitors will this weekend take part in one of Fife largest triathlon events at Lochore Meadows Country Park.

The festival of triathlon is being run by Edinburgh RC Cycling Club one of the UK’s largest cycling clubs.

The chair of the Cowdenbeath Area Committee, Mark Hood, welcomed the event and encouraged people to get along and cheer on competitors: "We have some great facilities at Lochore Meadows and it’s great to see the Triathlon festival back this year.

"With the success of Team GB’s triathlon squad there has been a great deal of interest in the sport and this is an opportunity for local people to get the chance to see the sport up close."

Competitors as young as 9 years old will take part in a range of triathlon distances during the course of the day, and Mr Hood added: "It is great to see the opportunity for young people to get involved in this exciting sport.

"With new the cycling circuit complete next year near Lochgelly High School we will have some of the best facilities in the country that will allow young people to take part in triathlon events in the future."
