THE intrepid Cowdenbeath Karate Club team who took on the Three Peak Challenge have been reflecting on what they achieved.

Thanks to support from employees at the Mossmorran petro-chemical complex they raised £500 for the development of young talent at their Broad Street base.

But it was quite some effort to tackle Ben Nevis, Snowdon and Scafell Pike.

Allan Goodwin, Ben Smith, Gordon Maxwell and Grant Robertson climbed the three peaks in just 24 hours and we have pictures of their achievement.

Biggest challenge, apart from the climbing was the sleep deprivation they they had to meet.

The boys had a dedicated driver, Leonard Courts, to transfer them between the three locations, in Scotland, England and Wales .

Travelling in a small van, all struggled to get any sleep, and Scafell Pike was climbed in the early hours of the morning with the lads using miners lamps attached to their elements to enable them to see in the dark!

Bu the challenge was to complete all three peaks within 24 hours, which depends on fitness as well as the roads being clear and no breakdowns.

However, they got their heads around what needed to be done and battled hard to succeed.

Allan said: "Fortunately the weather was very good and there were no problems with traffic.

"All food and water was taken whilst moving and the lads had prepared months beforehand and were fit enough to complete the challenge, with some of the climb being done through running.

"The challenge was successfully completed, however, all the lads stated they would never do it again!!"

The round journey was 1000 miles but the lads stayed overnight in Wales after completing the last peak in Snowdon.
