A Cowdenbeath rap artist believes his latest album will help him to make a name for himself in the industry upon release next month.

27-year-old Calum Mitchell's love of rap and hip hop started at an early age and is now starting to take his career to new levels with his latest album, Punkumentary.

A motivated Calum, who has worked with artists from America and Kenya in the past, said: "The Punkumentary EP is a story about all different aspects of life and in hip hop. I started the EP in 2014 while I was in and out of the studio. I wanted to make something that is a documentary on how I see things in hip hop and the world today. There are political raps on the EP, with some humour and personal stories as well, so it's also a documentary on my life.

"I'm donating 25 per cent of the proceeds from the album to Support in Mind Scotland, as I suffer from bipolar disorder myself and earlier this year I was admitted to hospital because of it. So I want to support a local mental health charity and give back so they can help others who are struggling with mental health."

The Punkumentary EP will be released on Friday October 7, with Calum's first ever live performance to be held at the The Bruery in Dunfermline, on Monday October 16, an experience he is looking forward to.

He said: "I'm quite nervous but I think once I get on stage and deliver I'll be fine. Hopefully there isn't much stage fright to shake off."

The former Woodmill High School pupil surrounded himself with work from iconic names in the business from a young age, taking inspiration from the likes of Eminem and Tupac.

Calum, from Rosyth, added: "When I started writing songs at the age of 13, I was heavily influenced by Tupac, Dr Dre, Eminem and Snoop Dogg. I really got into rapping when I was seven as I heard my cousin play Tupac and I was instantly hooked. I loved the rhythm of the rhymes and just wanted to be like him.

"My family and friends have supported me and told me if I want to do this that bad, to keep working on it and make sure I never give up. So that's what I've done."

"I'm focused more on my music and supporting my fellow artists right now. I want this to be my full-time job as I love doing it for my kids and my family, but I also love giving back to the community and people who need it."

The Punkumentary EP will be available to purchase on iTunes, Spotify and through the Google Play Store on release, with hard copies available for £5 a week after.
