HAVING her gran suffer from breast cancer made Kirsty Gavin determined to raise money for the Macmillan organisation.

Kirsty had seen the work which Macmillan nurses do for families and always having had a very full head of hair she thought what better than have her completely cut off.

The 26 year-old care assistant at Mossview at the Opera Residential Home, in Francis Street, Lochgelly, was given the full backing of the Mossview senior citizens on Thursday for her challenge.

And some even helped hairdresser Wendy Gallagher make sure that Kirsty had a new look!

The 15 minute extensive haircut certainly left Kirsty looking completely different but she said it was all about the cause.

She said: "I have raised £600 already but I hope to boost that by some considerable margin.

"The residents at Mossview have been very supportive as have my colleagues and it was good of them to give Wendy a hand at chopping off my locks."

Seeing her gran suffer from breast cancer Kirsty has been very keen to raise money for cancer causes and she did the Race for Life for Cancer Research.

Wendy lost her dad to the disease so she was delighted to offer her help at the charity event on Thursday.

The senior citizens had a great time encouraging Wendy and Kirsty and a couple certainly managed to cut off considerable amounts of hair.

Added Kirsty: "It was all good fun for a good cause and I hope to raise over £700 for Macmillan."
