Just under 30,000 households in Fife have benefitted from the council tax reduction scheme.

Mid Fife and Glenrothes MSP Jenny Gilruth has welcomed new figures released by the Scottish Government which show that, in Fife, 29,590 households were supported through the council tax reduction scheme in 2023.

In the past decade since the scheme was introduced, Scottish households have saved over £3.5 billion, with the average home seeing £800 come off their bills per year.

Across Scotland one in five households, over 460,000, receive council tax reduction support.

Ms Gilruth said: “Supporting people through the cost of living crisis in the SNP Government’s top priority – and these figures show that the council tax reduction scheme is helping people in Fife.

“A total of 29,590 households in Fife are being supported by this scheme. This is on top of every single home in Fife benefitting from having their council tax frozen in the next year."
