A Lochgelly man who had been highlighted on Facebook for acting suspiciously was then found in a woman’s home.

The shocked resident saw that the male was the same person who had been seen trying people’s doors over the previous days.

The culprit was Peter Powrie, 41, of North Street, who appeared in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He admitted that on July 28, 2021, he was found in a flat in Stenhouse Street, Cowdenbeath, without lawful authority and whereby it could be inferred he was intending to commit theft.

He then failed to appear at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on August 26, 2021.

Depute fiscal Amy Robertson said that at the time there was local concern about a person acting suspiciously in the Cowdenbeath area.

A man had been seen trying to open doors and a photo of him had been posted on social media.

At 6am on the day of the offence, a female had seen the man in the photo in High Street, Cowdenbeath.

Shortly afterwards, a woman heard someone coming into her home and shouted, “Is that you Rab?”, thinking it was her partner.

When there was no response, she got up and found there was a man in her living room.

She shouted: “What the f*** are you doing here.”

Powrie came up with a story that he had been at a flat upstairs and was looking for his phone.

The woman saw it was the same man who had been put on Facebook and he was later identified.

Defence solicitor Shona Westwood said her client’s position was that he had “taken something” before the offence but did not know what it was.

Sheriff Garry Sutherland imposed a structured deferred sentence to run until July 17.
