CHRISTMAS trees will be available to buy in Blairadam Forest, near Kelty, from Thursday December 1.

Forest Enterprise Scotland’s sales centre will be open every day from 10am to 4pm until Friday December 23.

There will be a variety of spruce, fir and pine trees, from four feet to over 10 feet in height, and a team of wardens, rangers and foresters to help you pick and care for the perfect tree.

Tree stands, decorations and firewood will also be available.

Jenny Ventham, communities and recreation ranger, said: “This is an exciting time for us at Blairadam.

"Helping families pick their tree is a great experience as everyone is filled with the Christmas spirit.

"Last year a lot of our customers made it a day out and enjoyed a walk through the forests nearby, before coming to buy their tree.”

She added: "Evergreen trees have been used to celebrate the winter season before Christmas was on the calendar and the first tree lights used on trees were candles in the 16th century.

"The Christmas tree has brought comfort and celebration to many homes both past and present, and is an occasion worth marking by picking your own personal tree.”

It's also National Tree Week from November 26 to December 4 and Forest Enterprise Scotland are encouraging walkers to visit their local woodland and take a stroll.

The event signifies the start of the winter tree planting season and marks the importance of trees within our society.

They are often described as the lungs of the earth, providing us with oxygen, food and homes for animals, birds and insects.
