THE devastation that hit Haiti is something we have no grasp of.
Our weather can be pretty awful at times but certainly never hurricane force winds or 40 inches of rain falling on a small island within a few hours.
So what happened last week when 900 lives were claimed was indeed a complete disaster.
Our three nurses who have spent a lot of time and effort raising funds to help the orphans of La Gonave were clearly shocked when they got first hand accounts of what had happened on that little island off the coast of Haiti.
Not surprisingly they were totally moved to start their own hurricane relief fund and they are hoping that there will be plenty of backing from the public.
An impoverished state like Haiti really needs major help but whether the big nations will rally around fast enough we still do not know.
So the smaller fundraising efforts in places like Lochgelly will be important.
As said earlier maybe the likes of the US government and France might well offer strong support but every penny that is raised will struggle to contend with the devastation that exists on the Caribbean island.
So hopefully the three Central Fife Haiti nurses can persuade people to help them rase funds which could make a big difference.
