WHILE he was happier than after the opening game with Elgin City, Cowdenbeath boss Liam Fox was very concerned at the way his team lost Saturday’s game with Forfar.

While against Elgin it was the lack of invention in attack that upset the manager, against the Loons it was some slack work at the back which was their undoing.

It leaves Cowdenbeath without a point from two games and they simply must win against league newcomers Edinburgh City this Saturday.

The side who won their way into the Scottish League set-up by beating East Stirling in the play-offs have lost their opening two fixtures also.

They are behind the Blues on goal difference so Cowden have to look to get their points scoreboard moving this Saturday.

Two defeats does not cripple their hopes of being amongst the promotion hopefuls but it ensures that they cannot afford many more blank Saturdays.

Said Mr Fox: “We played a lot better against Forfar in terms of creating chances, indeed we carved out some cracking openings, scored some really good goals and looked to be going to earn an away point.

“However, defensively we did not play nearly as securely as we have and a couple of the goals we lost were very avoidable.

“We had battled back brilliantly after going 3-1 down but then gave away a fourth with only a few minutes left which was a real body blow.”

The manager is very aware that his team needs to start collecting points on Saturday to get back up the table and into a threatening position.

He added: “We are six points behind the leading clubs who we have lost narrowly to so we are aware that we can sort this out.

“But we have to do that as quickly as possible starting at home to Edinburgh City this weekend.

“They will be determined to make an impact in league football so there will be no easy points on offer but we have our own agenda.

“We want to be up challenging for the top places in the division but to do that you have to win games and we must look to do that this weekend.

“We need to marry up the forward play of Saturday with the soundness of our defending against Elgin and that has to be our target.”

Centre-back Gerry McLauchlan is still a doubt but striker Kris Renton is available and may well feature in this game.
