COWDENBEATH bowler Billy Allan was in top form to retain his Fife Carpet Bowls Championship title last month.

The Scotland outdoor international, who starred in the 2014 Commonwealth Games, retained his open crown at the event, which was organised by Disability Sport Fife (DSF) with support from the Fife Sports and Leisure Trust.

Held at the Michael Woods Sports and Leisure Centre in Glenrothes, 13 singles sections for junior and senior players with a physical, sensory or learning disability were contested, and a significant number of bowlers were introduced to the event for the first time.

Allan defeated blind bowler Eleanor Clark to win his title while Lochgelly High School provided all the junior players for the three sections for junior players with a learning disability.

Kayshaleigh Lambert and Brandon Cuming won the girls' and boys' 'A' sections, with Emily Cowan and Ryan Pollock finishing as runners-up, while the boys' 'B' section was won by Jordan Mitchell ahead of Adam Montague.

Central Fife Community Support Service (CSS) bowlers were prominent throughout the competition and two of them, Jim Donaldson and Wullie Harrison, contested the wheelchair title which was won by the latter.

Craig Donaldson and Michelle Wallace won the men's and women's open titles for bowlers with a learning disability, defeating East Fife CSS' Gary Lindsay and Wendy Thomson.

The Fife team for the 2017 Scottish Carpet Bowls Championships, to be held in Dundee in February, will be announced early in the New Year with results from the event set to determine selection.

DSF added that they were "indebted" to the 18 volunteer markers from bowling clubs in Central Fife who officiated throughout the championships.
